The Turnbows (Russia)
Jake and Donna Turnbow are missionaries to Russia. Here is their story in their
own words.
"Both Donna and I are graduates of Northland Baptist Bible College. We both left very good jobs and went to Bible College. She was a nurse and I was an employee at General Motors for twenty years. I turned 40 my freshman year.
This all came about because of our commitment to read the Word of God daily. God brought us to this point of surrender through Bible doctrine. We began asking
God what His perfect will was for us and He sent us to Bible college to train for the ministry.
We began praying about the field of Russia when the iron curtain came down in November, 1989. God through His Spirit, Word, circumstances and people directed us to Blagoveschensk, Russia. God gave us the needed support through local churches
in two year. My last year of Bible college we worked on deputation part time and then one year after graduation.
We left for the field June, 1995. We continue to stay in Russia through teaching
English. Our first term my wife and I taught at the Amur State University. God led in this arrangement for us to establish Bible studies. Through Bible studies
over 35 college students and teachers came to know Christ as Savior. The University knew during this time who we were and what we are doing. The university has about
three thousand students and this gave us many contacts in which to share the gospel.
Through this outreach we have established a house church with two national ministers. Slava was the first to be saved and baptized. And Dema who is now the
elected pastor of the church. He leads and pastors the church. Doing all the teaching except for Sunday school which I teach. We have seen fruit from those that have
been saved and also we have seen fruit from our single missionary in China.
God has blessed us with spiritual grand children in less than four years. We serve with The Hyden family and a single missionary Margaret Peckham. As well
our daughter continues to teach piano, voice and choir. Donna works with church ladies and has a Bible study with unsaved girls. I work with the national pastor,
teach Sunday school, three Bible studies and teach at the high school.
Our sending church is Faith Baptist Church in Pembine, Wisconsin. Our mission board is Baptist World Mission where there are to date over 300 missionaries serving
in over 45 countries. Our needs include a continued open door to plant New Testament Baptist churches in our city as well as throughout Russia. We would like to help
our new founded church to grow spiritually and reproduce itself. We need to find a building to meet in or purchase property to build a building.
Thanks for your interest.
In His name,
Jake and Donna Turnbow"
