| Bike for Bibles (2009)
by Jim Duncan
Friends,
I trust this letter finds you well. I am sending you this letter asking for you to consider supporting me as I participate in the Bike For Bibles Ride in Canada again this year. Bike for Bibles is a Canadian Bile Society fundraising activity. Money raised is used to provide Bibles for those without the Word of God and is raised through sponsoring cyclists. Each year, funds are raised for Bible distribution and translation projects. Each year, countless numbers of Bibles are laced into waiting hands. Each year, God's Word speaks to tens of thousands of hearts, changing lives forever.
Last year, I made 600 of the 675 miles (from Vancouver, British Columbia to Calgary, Alberta). I had to drop out one of the days due to a knee strain. As you may remember, the money purchased "A Candy Store of Scriptures" for some of the 80 million orphaned children in India. The Candy Store included Bibles, Bible Storybooks, Biblical coloring books, audiotapes, videos, etc. The emphasis was in the Pune region of India, but was shared with as many orphanages as possible throughout the country.
This year's ride will be a 'short' 400 miles, and the money raised will be used to provide New Testaments to every athlete and as many spectators as possible that will attend the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. This can truly be a 'day of Pentecost' event, with God's Word being taken to almost every country in the world. This is a very exciting opportunity.
How can you help?
Three ways:
1 - Prayer. I will need prayer warriors to pray for my safety, health, and fundraising (please pray for me daily from now until I return from Canada).
2 - Encouragement - I will need encouragement to train and prepare for this event.
3 - Funding. I will need financial help. My financial goal is $4000.00
a) I need sponsors in order to raise money for the Canadian Bible Society (they are hoping that each rider will raise $2000.00).
b) I need money to cover expenses (travel, shipping my bicycle, $250 registration fee, etc.)
c) Miscellaneous expenses (I would like to take a little in the event an emergency comes up, I get injured, etc.)
Note: All money raised will go to this project.
Please consider my goal. If you have any questions, please contact me. You may contact the Canadian Bible Society's British Columbia office to make a donation by phone at: 1-604-872-6991 ext. 102 or you may ask for Amie Wiebe or Bill Absolom.
Pressing up the hill,
Jim Duncan |
